چکیده

Spatial relationships between geographic objects are time-dependent and can change due to various phenomena. Water levels of rivers or lakes may rise causing flodding of buildings and roads near the shore line; contamination of soils may spread causing hazards for people living in affected areas; hurricanes may pass over islands or reach the continent; and market areas may expand so that they extend into adjacent political or administrative regions. In all these examples the objects changed their spatial relationships with respect to other spatial objects. A particularly important set of spatial relationships are , which are preserved under groups of continuous transformations. Models for changes of topological relationships are relevant to spatio-temporal reasoning in geographic space as they derive the most likely configurations and allow National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis and Department of Surveying Engineering, Boardman Hall, University of Maine, Orono, ME 04469, U.S.A. max, kaltaha @mecan1.maine.edu

Decentralized Reasoning about Gradual Changes of Topological Relationships between Continuously Evolving Regions

A key challenge facing many applications of new geosensor networks technology is to derive meaningful spatial knowledge from lowlevel sensed data. This paper presents a formal model for representing and computing topological relationship changes between continuously evolving regions monitored by a geosensor network. The definition of “continuity” is used to constrain region evolution and enable...

مدل‌سازی روابط توپولوژیک سه بعدی فازی در محیط GIS

Nowadays, geospatial information systems (GIS) are widely used to solve different spatial problems based on various types of fundamental data: spatial, temporal, attribute and topological relations. Topological relations are the most important part of GIS which distinguish it from the other kinds of information technologies. One of the important mechanisms for representing topological relations...

A Formal Approach to Qualitative Reasoning on Topological Properties of Networks

Qualitative reasoning uses a limited set of relevant distinctions of the domain to allow a flexible way of representing and reasoning about it. This work presents a conceptual framework for qualitative reasoning about information networks from a spatial-topological point of view. We consider the properties of connectivity and some topological invariants to describe the structural characteristic...

Twenty Years of Topological Logic

Topological logics are formal systems for representing and manipulating information about the topological relationships between objects in space. Over the past two decades, these logics have been the subject of intensive research in Artificial Intelligence, under the general rubric of Qualitative Spatial Reasoning. This chapter sets out the mathematical foundations of topological logics, and su...

Event-based topology for dynamic planar areal objects

Representation and reasoning about dynamic spatial phenomena requires at its foundation a formalism of spatial change. This paper extends our understanding of topological change, by providing a classification and analysis of events associated with changes in topological structures of spatial areal objects as they evolve through time. Tree structures are employed to represent topological relatio...
